On Saturday, April 9th, we held our 10th Annual Conference at the Judicial Education & Conference Center in Annapolis, MD with more then 215 people in attendance. The theme of the year’s conference is A Brighter Future for Maryland’s Children & Youth. The keynote speaker was Mr. Suamhirs Piraino-Guzman, who was recently appointed by President Obama to the U.S. Advisory Council on Human Trafficking. A survivor of child abuse and human trafficking, Piraino-Guzman spent several years in foster care and, with the help of his CASA volunteer, persevered. Today, he travels the country advocating for youth and teaching caregivers and service providers how to help children who have been traumatized.
