CASA of Harford County Plans 4th Annual Vigil and Pinwheel GardenChild Abuse Prevention Month Event to “Take a Stand for Children”

Bel Air, MD — April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout this month, CASA of Harford County invites the community to play a role in making Harford County a place that prioritizes children’s healthy development. When parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources to provide children with safe, stable, nurturing, and healthy environments, we can prevent abuse and neglect before they occur. CASA of Harford County is hosting a vigil to highlight and honor Child Abuse Prevention Month.The vigil will be held at the Harford County Circuit Courthouse, on Monday, April 3^rd at 6:30 pm.  Vigil spectators will each be given a blue pinwheel to “plant” outside of the courthouse at the conclusion of the vigil.“The blue pinwheel has become a national symbol for Child Abuse Prevention month. It represents the innocence and playfulness that all children deserve,” states CASA’s Director, Ross DiEdoardo. “Bringing attention to the issue of child abuse and neglect and the need for the community to step up to keep our kids safe is what we at CASA stand for. We hope as many people as possible can join us for this event.”Today in Harford County there are roughly 200 abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care, about half of whom have CASA volunteers speaking up for their best interests in court.The event will feature a presentation of a proclamation from County Executive Barry Glassman’s office recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and remarks from CASA’s Executive Director, Ross DiEdoardo and Sheriff Jeff Gahler. All in the community are welcomed and encouraged to attend.About CASA of Harford CountyCASA of Harford County has been in existence since 1995.  It is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that trains community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are in the foster care and court system.  CASA Volunteers monitor all aspects of their case and report to the court, making recommendations for what they feel is in the child’s best interest.
