Maryland CASA Recruiting Runners & Walkers to Support Victims of Child Abuse and Neglect

(August 2, 2016) —Maryland CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Association is recruiting runners and walkers for its charity team, Team CASA, which will participate in the 16th Annual Baltimore Running FestivalSaturday, Oct. 15, at M&T Bank Stadium.Named Charity Partner of the Year in 2015, this will mark the child advocacy organization’s eighth year participating in the citywide running event.All Team CASA members will have the opportunity to walk or run in the marathon ($125), half-marathon ($115), 5K ($45) or team relay ($260) to raise funds and awareness about Maryland CASA’s efforts on behalf of victims of child abuse and neglect. New this year will be the opportunity to participate in the BaltiMORON-a-thon ($155), a combination of the 5K and half-marathon races.Today in Maryland, 5,000 children have been removed from their homes as a result of abuse and neglect, more than half of whom are in need of a caring, consistent, and loving adult advocate to speak up for their best interests in court.“Our team members come from all walks of life – from serious athletes and marathoners to co-workers and families tackling their first 5K – but all are committed to supporting Maryland’s abused and neglected children and helping to find them safe, permanent homes,” said Ed Kilcullen, Maryland CASA’s state director.Funds raised by Team CASA will support efforts to recruit more volunteers to advocate for Maryland’s foster children.
