Maryland CASA’s Annual Conference on Child Welfare to be Held in Annapolis on April 21-22, 2023
(Towson, Maryland, April 4, 2023) - The 16th Annual Conference on Child Welfare, Redefining Advocacy is set to take place on Friday, April 21st and Saturday, April 22nd at The Maryland Judiciary College located in Annapolis, Maryland The conference will bring together experts, advocates, and professionals from across the country to discuss critical issues affecting child welfare and children living in foster care.
This year's conference theme is "Redefining Advocacy," and attendees can expect to hear from leading voices in the field as they share their experiences, research, and innovative strategies for advancing child welfare practices. The conference will focus on redefining how to approach advocacy for children and youth living in foster care and how we can do better to view advocacy through a more holistic, equitable lens.
The conference will feature keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, as well as a resource hall highlighting the latest tools and resources available to support child welfare services. Attendees will have the chance to participate in plenary sessions, panel discussions, and over 24 workshops taking place over the two days of the conference. "We're thrilled to be hosting our 16th annual conference, and we believe it's going to be our best yet," said Camille Davis, State Director of Maryland CASA Association. "Our goal is to bring together a diverse group of professionals and experts to share their knowledge and insights and to foster collaboration and innovation in the field of child welfare."
This year's conference is expected to draw hundreds of attendees from across the country, including CASA volunteers, CASA staff, child welfare professionals, advocates, policymakers, researchers, and students. “We are honored to have the Maryland Secretary of the Department of Human Services, Rafael Lopez, as our keynote speaker for this year’s conference,” said Barbra Diaz, Associate Director of Program Service with Maryland CASA. “Secretary Lopez has a demonstrated history of commitment to improving the lives of children and families. We are thrilled that he will take the opportunity as our keynote speaker to kick off our conference and energize all our attendees in redefining what advocacy looks like.”
