Youth Mental Health First Aid session

“Youth” Mental Health First Aid is a training program designed to equip adults with the skills to support young people (ages 12–18) experiencing mental health challenges, crises, or substance use issues. It teaches participants to identify signs of mental health struggles, provide initial support, and connect youth with appropriate professional help or resources. The program emphasizes understanding, compassion, and effective communication to promote early intervention and recovery.

About The Presenter

Chelsea McGonigle leads school-based partnerships at Change the Conversation, focusing on implementing Turn the Talk and professional development trainings. A Family Life Educator with nearly 15 years of experience, Chelsea has worked with youth and families in program development, case management, crisis intervention, and psychoeducational group facilitation. She founded CDM Education & Prevention Consultants to help schools and community agencies address Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) like child sexual abuse and foster care involvement.

Chelsea is a certified Darkness to Light Group Facilitator and Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor. With extensive experience in intervention, particularly supporting individuals who have used abusive behaviors, she is passionate about ensuring children understand and experience safety in relationships. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and is pursuing a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Chelsea volunteers with organizations such as Johns Hopkins Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation and resides in Baltimore with her husband and daughters.
