We encourage you to become involved in our efforts to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect in Maryland.
Every day in Maryland, 22 children are abused or neglected. If this were a recall of tainted food or a malfunctioning product, it would be all over the headlines. But it seems the only time we hear about child abuse and neglect is when a child has died or been seriously injured.
Today, more than 10,000 children live in temporary foster homes in Maryland, awaiting safe, permanent homes. They are children like yours and mine, with the same potential, the same hopes and desires. But they are thrust into a complex court system through no fault of their own – and they will wait an average of three years before finding permanent homes.Far too often, their voices are not heard. In many ways, they are forgotten children.
That is where CASA comes in.CASA recruits and trains adult volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for victims of child abuse and neglect. Our goal is simple – to speak up for every child’s right to a safe, permanent home.
We invite you to become involved with CASA – by serving as a CASA volunteer, supporting our work with a financial or in kind contribution, helping to recruit additional volunteers, or one of the many other ways to take action on behalf of children.
Please check out our site to learn more about our work and how you may become involved. On behalf of the 10,000 children awaiting safe and permanent homes, I thank you for your interest in helping Maryland’s most vulnerable children.
