CogniTutor Offering Tutoring Services to CASA Youth!

CogniTutor

Tutoring, mentoring, and music & arts lessons specializing in working with youth in foster care!

Our missionCogniTutor’s mission is to train students to learn in a smarter way. CogniTutor gives students the tools to think strategically, improve memory and motivation, and succeed in the future. Students are taught how to learn, which aids in long-term goals.Executive SummaryCogniTutor uses the latest learning and neuroscience research and trauma informed care to help students become independent learners. We focus on working with foster care youth as they have very high drop-out rates and are typically 3 or more grade levels below their grade level with IEPs. Our tutors act as mentors with students to relate better and help increase their motivation. Building students’ confidence and outlook on education drastically increases their engagement. We also emphasize critical thinking, reading comprehension, and other learning skills to help the student succeed in their current classes and future classes on their own!ServicesCogniTutor tutors academic subjects, standardized tests, and gives music lessons to students of all ages. We work with all demographics and specialize with foster care youth and homeless children. Sessions are best conducted individually, but can also be conducted in groups. We develop a team specifically for each student which includes the tutor, guardian, administrator, teacher, and therapists. Our tutor will speak with the rest of the team about existing knowledge, IEPs, etc. on the student and then conduct a pre-assessment during the first session that will go over student strengths, weaknesses, and goals on a timeline. Students will meet with tutors and session reports after each session will go out the team, case management, and involved organizations.Contact Informationloni@mail.usf.edu
