Efforts to Start a CASA Program in Wicomico County Move Forward

Maryland CASA has recently received the green light from the National CASA Association to proceed with efforts to start a CASA program in Wicomico County, one the three counties in the state that do not have CASA programs.  Efforts had come to a halt earlier in the year when National CASA imposed a moratorium on new CASA programs as they revamped the program development process. There has been growing interest in starting a CASA program in Wicomico County in the past few years.  With strong support from Circuit Court judges, Maryland CASA has been working with court officials to explore the feasibility of starting a stand-alone CASA program to serve children in the County.  The Wicomico County Circuit Court received a planning grant from the Administrative Office of the Courts in July and is in the process of hiring a program developer to work with Maryland CASA to complete the program development process.  We hope to have National CASA approval and be ready to begin serving children by July, 2020.
