#WhyWeRun | Meet Daniel, Age 14
Note: If you are a Team CASA Runner or Walker who is reading, share this post to your Facebook or Twitter via the buttons below - be sure to include a link to your personal fundraising page and ask your friends, family, and co-workers to support your race!Daniel* is a 14-year-old boy who had been in foster care for more than four years when a CASA volunteer, Angie*, was appointed. During that time, Daniel's father died and his mother continued to struggle with substance abuse, resulting in termination of their parental rights. Daniel disrupted out of two potential adoptive homes due to emotional and behavioral difficulties.Although very capable, his school performance fluctuated with the many changes in his life as well. When a potential adoptive family was identified, Angie helped to cultivate this relationship. She also supported the continuation of the only birth family relationship with a local relative, connecting this relative with the adoptive family to establish an ongoing relationship. During this time, Daniel had three social workers at DSS, three attorneys, and several counselors, but Angie remained constant.Daniel is now 14, a successful high school student, and living with his new family while he awaits the finalization of his adoption.Did you know that each mile ran (or walked) and dollar raised by Team CASA at the Baltimore Running Festival helps us to recruit and train more volunteers, like Angie, to help abused and neglected children throughout Maryland? The event is taking place in just a few short days and we've only achieved 70% of our overall fundraising goal. Please consider a gift to Team CASA and help us continue to make a difference for those in need!*Names & specific details have been changed to maintain the confidentiality of this case.
