MD CASA Welcomes Dr. Seun O. Ross, RN to Board of Directors
(TOWSON, Md. – March 2, 2018) Maryland CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association has appointed Dr. Seun O. Ross, RN to a two-year term on its board of directors. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to ensuring abused and neglected children their right to safe, permanent homes; they achieve this mission, together with 15 local programs throughout the state who recruit and train passionate members of the community to speak up and advocate for the needs of children in foster care.Dr. Ross is the Director of Nursing Practice and Work Environment at the American Nurses Association where she is responsible for advancing the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting a safe and ethical work environment, bolstering the health and wellness of nurses, and advocating on healthcare issues that affect nurses and the public.“I chose to join Maryland CASA’s board of directors because, as a nurse, one of the tenants of our professional practice is to serve as advocates,” said Ross. “I have a true passion to advocate for vulnerable populations, and children are at the center; being a part of giving children hope for a better future is at the heart of what drew me to this organization,” she added.Dr. Ross is a published author, most recently in a book titled, “The Doctor of Nursing Practice and the Executive Role”. She has lectured on many topics within her research interests, which include evidence-based practice, workforce management, RN work environment, competency and developing/mentoring the novice RN. She received The Healthcare Award from the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in 2014, in recognition of her efforts in advancing the profession of nursing. She also has an Endowed scholarship in her name at Coppin State University aimed to assist nursing students with families, in the completion of their Bachelor’s degree.“While serving on the board, I hope to drive the strategic direction of CASA to create a shared vision for work and learning; building strategic partnerships and sustaining the organization’s progress toward continuous improvement, all-the-while maintaining strong ethical standards,” she said.Dr. Ross earned her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s Degree from Coppin State University and her Doctoral Degree from Chatham University. She is currently the President of the Chi Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, Vice President of the National Organization for Women (NOW)-Baltimore, a member of the Academy of Healthcare Executives and holds certifications as a family nurse practitioner and Nurse Executive-Advanced.About Maryland CASA AssociationMaryland (Court Appointed Special Advocates) CASA Association is the statewide organization for 15 local CASA programs that recruit and train volunteers to advocate for children in the child protection system.
